Postdoc in Generative AI for Multisensory Experience – DTU Engineering Technology, Denmark

Postdoc Position in DTU, Technical University of Denmark

Summary

DTU Engineering Technology invites applications for a one‑year full‑time postdoctoral position to develop and evaluate personal generative models of multisensory perception. Funded by a Villum Experiment grant, the project will use controlled extended reality (XR) environments to study how individuals combine sound, vision and touch under uncertainty, and whether personalized models can predict behaviour in novel situations and guide more accessible interactions.

Designation

Postdoctoral Researcher (Postdoc)

Research Area

Generative AI for multisensory perception, computational perception, XR/HCI, human experimental methods, and universal design.

Location

Department of Engineering Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Denmark.

Eligibility / Qualification

  • PhD in machine learning, computational perception, cognitive science, HCI, XR, or a closely related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong background in machine learning and computational modelling of perception.
  • Programming skills and experience developing models and experimental code.
  • Interest and experience in conducting experimental studies with human participants (behavioural, gaze, physiological measurements preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate across disciplines including AI, perception and interaction design.

Job Description

The appointed researcher will investigate whether an individual’s patterns of multisensory integration can be inferred from repeated interactions in XR and whether those personal models generalize to new sensory contexts. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing XR experiments that systematically vary sensory reliability, timing, and cross‑modal agreement.
  • Collecting and analysing behavioural responses, gaze data and physiological signals.
  • Developing generative computational models that capture individual differences in multisensory integration.
  • Comparing personal models with population‑level and preference‑based approaches and assessing generalisation.
  • Exploring how model outputs can inform interaction strategies to improve accessibility and user experience.
  • Publishing results at the intersection of AI, perception, XR and universal design.

Assessment

Applications will be evaluated on academic qualifications, relevant research experience, motivation, and fit with the project goals.

We Offer

DTU is an internationally recognised technical university offering a stimulating, diverse and collegial environment. The position provides an opportunity to work at the frontier of AI, perception and interaction research with access to XR facilities and interdisciplinary collaborators.

Salary and Appointment Terms

  • The position is offered under the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations; specific allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
  • Employment period: 1 year (full‑time).
  • Expected starting date: January 2027.

How to Apply

Submit your complete online application by the deadline as a single PDF file containing all materials in English. Use the “Apply now” link below to access the application form and upload your PDF.

The PDF must include:
