Job Summary
DESY, one of the world’s leading research centres, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Cluster of Excellence “Quantum Universe.” This role focuses on developing advanced superconducting radiofrequency (SRF) cavity control systems to detect high-frequency gravitational waves and dark matter axions in the kHz-MHz frequency range.
| Designation | Postdoctoral Researcher |
| Research Area | SRF Cavity Control, Axion and Gravitational Wave Searches |
| Location | Hamburg, Germany |
| Duration | Limited (2 years) |
| Application Deadline | Open |
Job Description
The successful candidate will work at the interface of quantum physics and cosmology, focusing on Low-Level RF (LLRF) instrumentation. Key responsibilities include:
- Continuing the development and setup of a unique LLRF system for the project.
- Advancing carrier suppression interferometer (CSl)-based techniques and integrating them into the LLRF system.
- Conducting research and supervising students on cryogenic low-noise RF components such as oscillators, multipliers, mixers, and amplifiers.
- Carrying out electronic designs, prototype developments, system characterization, and concept evaluation.
- Developing systems capable of resolving extremely small signals buried in cavity noise with exceptional phase and amplitude stability.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience.
- Several years of experience designing, building, and modelling low-noise RF electronics in the MHz-GHz range.
- Professional experience in analogue and digital electronics (low- and high-frequency).
- Proficiency with modern RF measuring devices and CAD software (e.g., Altium Designer).
- Experience with RF modelling tools such as HFSS, GST, or ADS.
- Familiarity with the theory of SRF cavities; an interest in particle physics experiments is highly advantageous.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their complete application documents through the DESY application portal. Required documents include:
- Letter of motivation and research interests.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- List of publications.
- Relevant certificates.
- Three letters of reference (submitted via the dedicated online tool).
