Summary
The University of Hohenheim is offering a PhD position within the GreenRobust Cluster of Excellence. This research project focuses on investigating the effects of weather extremes and abiotic stress combinations on crop yield stability. The role involves a mix of computational analysis, field/greenhouse experiments, and molecular analysis to identify mechanistic targets for crop resilience.

The research is centered on Nutritional Crop Physiology, specifically examining yield stability under complex abiotic stress combinations. The project integrates agronomy, plant physiology, and multi-omics data analysis.
Scholarship Description
As part of the GreenRobust Cluster of Excellence, the successful candidate will work on a long-term field trial to identify major drivers of yield instability caused by weather extremes. Key responsibilities include:
- Computational analysis of long-term weather and crop growth data using statistical methods.
- Supervising and conducting both greenhouse and field experiments.
- Performing transcriptomic (including single-cell) analysis on field samples.
- Analyzing growth parameters, nutrients, metabolites, and gene expression.
- Integrating multi-omics datasets.
- Presenting research findings at national and international conferences and drafting scientific publications.
Eligibility/Qualification
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A University degree (Master’s or Diploma) in Biology, Plant Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field.
- A strong interest in agronomy, plant physiology, and statistics.
- Prior experience with greenhouse or field experiments.
- Laboratory experience in molecular methods or analytical chemistry.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in English and German (both oral and written).
