PhD Opportunity in UCLouvain: UCLouvain is offering an exciting PhD thesis opportunity in Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Instrumental Techniques. The research project focuses on understanding the separation of geminate radicals formed after photo-induced electron transfer and the factors influencing their cage-escape yields. The selected candidate will have access to advanced spectroscopic techniques and will work within a collaborative research program. This is a full-time temporary position with a starting date of October 1, 2023.
Designation: PhD Candidate
Research Area: Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Instrumental Techniques
Location: UCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in experimental Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering (minimum required grade “Distinction” i.e., ≥14/20)
- Strong desire and motivation to use time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to investigate key intermediates in reaction mechanisms
- Proficiency in English
Job Description: The selected PhD candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Research conducted to identify factors affecting cage-escape yields of geminate radicals. Uses advanced spectroscopic techniques like nanosecond UV-Visible transient absorption spectroscopy and nanosecond time-resolved infrared spectroscopy.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data obtained from the spectroscopic tools available in the laboratory.
- Collaborate with the research team within the “Action de Recherche Concertée (ARC)” program.
- Prepare and present research findings in scientific conferences and publications.
- Apply for a doctoral fellowship through the F.R.S-FNRS (FRIA) granting schemes, if required.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates are requested to send their application, including the following documents, via email to Ludovic.Troian@uclouvain.be as soon as possible (preferably before August 1, 2023):
