Postdoctoral Researcher in Melanoma Research: We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Marseille Medical Genetics (MMG) INSERM research unit, located at Aix-Marseille Université in Marseille, France. The research will be done in Dr. Heather Etchevers’ lab as part of the “Mechanisms of Paracrine and Endocrine Disorders” team (MoPED). They study how cellular and molecular mechanisms impact organ system differentiation.The candidate will work on the MELCAYA project funded by Horizon Europe. They will focus on identifying triggers and transitions from normal melanocytes to nevi and melanoma in young patients.This is a temporary full-time position with a contract starting from 28th August 2023.

Job Description: The Postdoctoral Researcher will work on the MELCAYA project, focused on understanding the causes and specificities of melanoma in children, adolescents, and young adults with congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN). The candidate will integrate animal model work with high-resolution identification of cell states and populations bearing analogous mutations in human CMN lesional skin. Utilizing genome-wide methylation, spatial transcriptomics, and single-cell multi-omics techniques, the researcher will infer temporal trajectories of pigmentary tumor components and leverage their findings into testable hypotheses. The role involves both experimental and computational approaches, and the candidate will be supported by the technical staff and access to core facilities.

Requirements:

  • Education Level: PhD or equivalent
  • Skills/Qualifications:
    • Experience with nucleic acids and primary cell or organotypic culture
    • Proficiency in statistical analyses using SigmaPlot, Prism, or R
    • Published at least one article as first author in an international peer-reviewed journal
  • Specific Requirements:
    • Holds a Ph.D. in developmental or stem cell biology, human or animal genetics, or molecular and cell biology
    • Desirable experience in bulk or single-cell RNAseq, RNAscope, in situ hybridization, or spatial transcriptomic techniques
    • Fluorescence microscopy and computational proficiency in Python or image analysis workflows (e.g., ImageJ/Fiji) are a plus.
