Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Plant-Microbiome : Join UC Davis in a groundbreaking research opportunity! We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to investigate root development, plant-microbiome interactions, and parasitic plant relationships, with a focus on high-throughput plant phenotyping. Eligibility/Qualification:

Basic qualifications (required at the time of application):

  • PhD in Biology, Microbiology, Developmental Biology, Systems Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Plant Pathology, or Genetics.
  • Experience in manipulating large-scale genomic data and efficient utilization of computer clusters.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and programming experience in R.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of imaging.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research with microbes (bacteria and/or fungi).
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of standard bioinformatics tools, packages, algorithms, and databases for the analysis of genetics data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Highly motivated and committed to research.

Job Description:

As a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Davis, you will work closely with Dr. Brady’s research team to:

  • Identify microbes that induce changes in cell wall differentiation in sorghum, rice, and millet roots.
  • Test the consequences of these changes on interactions with the parasitic plant, Striga hermonthica.
  • Develop a platform for histochemistry and cellular-resolution imaging.
  • Treat plants with individual microbes or synthetic communities at moderate to high throughput.
  • Prioritize microbes for their ability to induce desirable traits in sorghum, rice, and millet.
  • Perform bioinformatic analyses to identify closely related species for further testing.
  • Collaborate with international partners in the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Senegal, and the United Kingdom.
  • Attend workshops or courses to enhance analytical skills.
  • Mentor students and participate in manuscript and grant preparation.
