Study Area: This scholarship position is part of the HERITAGE project, a collaborative research program focused on addressing heat stress in aging urban environments in Dutch cities. It involves socio-technical solutions and connects four leading universities of technology in the Netherlands.

Scholarship Description:

PHD CANDIDATE “HIGH-TECH SENSING FOR TURBULENT AND RADIANT HEAT EXCHANGE IN URBAN ENVIRONMENTS”

As a PHD candidate, you will work on remote sensing-based observational modeling of atmospheric urban boundary layer dynamics. Your tasks will include analyzing optical-thermal imagery, ground observations, and modeling ambient temperature in urban environments. You’ll also participate in experimental campaigns, present research results, contribute to teaching, and mentor MSc students as needed.

Eligibility: To qualify for this scholarship, you should have:

  • An MSc in physics, meteorology, hydrology, physical geography, or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and collect field data.
  • Experience in quantitative earth observation analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, Fortran, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • A collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
