Research Associate for the Project: The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Natural Sciences at the University of Hamburg is seeking a Research Associate for the SQUEEZE project. This project aims to systematically plan the conservation of a sustainable and acceptable protected tundra area network at the circum-Arctic scale, considering the dynamics of Arctic stressors, biodiversity, ecosystem functions, and management opportunities. The Research Associate will work on a numerical modeling approach to assess past and future dynamics of tundra vegetation communities, permafrost protection, and reindeer populations under various stressors. The work will involve close collaboration with partner institutions and organizations.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- A university degree in a relevant field and a doctorate.
- Knowledge and experience in at least two of the following research disciplines: Ecology, biogeochemistry, soil science, hydrology, and climate science.
- Advanced skills in numerical modeling and scientific writing.
- Team spirit, motivation, independent thinking and working, and experience with Unix-like operating systems and associated software.
- Excellent oral and written English skills.

- Academic services in the SQUEEZE project, involving systematic conservation planning of a tundra area network.
- Conduct process-based numerical modeling to assess tundra vegetation dynamics, permafrost protection, and reindeer populations.
- Consider stressors such as climate change, tree invasion, fire, and herbivory management.
- Collaborate with partner institutions and organizations to optimize protection area establishment.
