Funded Ph.D. Student in Urban Analytics Research
The funded Ph.D. position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the investigation of how various factors, such as amenities, residential preferences, mortgage lending practices, and real estate advertisements, shape neighborhood change processes. This NSF-funded project is a collaborative effort between Dr. Isabelle Nilsson at UNC Charlotte and Elizabeth Delmelle at UPenn. The research will primarily focus on predicting changes in the income and racial composition of mortgage applicants based on various socio-economic and housing market variables. The RA will employ advanced statistical methods and assist in the development of an innovative textbook on emerging applications of natural language processing techniques for solving spatial problems.
Eligibility: To be considered for this scholarship position, applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Master’s degree in Geography, Planning, Economics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Be admitted into the Geography Ph.D. or Public Policy Ph.D. program at UNC Charlotte.
- Possess a strong foundation in quantitative methods.
- Demonstrate a research interest in urban and housing issues.
- Have familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python).
