Postdoctoral Associate in Plant Genomics: Durham University’s Department of Biosciences invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the field of Plant Comparative Genomics and Phylogenomics. The project is focused on understanding the impact of mutualism breakdown on plant genomes, with a particular emphasis on the ant-plant symbiotic Glade Hydnophytinae (Rubiaceae). The research explores the consequences of mutualism disruption, offering a unique opportunity for evolutionary replication in the study of this phenomenon.
Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Research Area: Plant Comparative Genomics, Phylogenomics, Mutualism, Symbiosis, Phylogenetic Comparative Methods
Location: Durham University, Department of Biosciences, UK
Eligibility/Qualification:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Experience in comparative genomics and phylogenomics.
- Proficiency in phylogenomic framework construction.
- Ability to assemble and annotate genomes.
- Familiarity with studying the evolution of mutualistic gene toolkits.
- Competence in investigating genome-wide signatures of mutualism breakdown.
Job Description:
Postdoctoral Research Associate in Plant Comparative Genomics & Phylogenomics
The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in the research project, focusing on the aspects of comparative genomics and phylogenomics. The key responsibilities include:
- Constructing a robust phylogenomic framework encompassing all 105 Hydnophytinae species and relevant outgroups.
- Assembling and annotating genomes for all these species.
- Investigating the evolution of mutualistic gene toolkits, including contraction and expansion, and assessing selection pressures.
- Exploring potential genome-wide signatures associated with mutualism breakdown.
