Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow: Join the University of Exeter’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences in the role of Postdoctoral Research Associate or Postdoctoral Research Fellow. We are looking for a dynamic individual to contribute to the IDAPro project (‘Integrating Drivers of Atlantic Productivity’) with a focus on marine zooplankton physiology, ecology, and biogeochemistry. This project aims to enhance our understanding of the drivers of marine primary production, ultimately reducing uncertainty in future ocean productivity projections. If you are passionate about marine science and wish to be part of this exciting initiative, we encourage you to apply.
Designation:
- Postdoctoral Research Associate
- Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Research Area: Marine Zooplankton Physiology, Ecology, and Biogeochemistry
Location: Exeter
Eligibility/Qualification:
For Postdoctoral Research Associate:
- Ability to present research progress and outcomes effectively.
- Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic communication.
- Capability to prepare proposals and applications for external bodies.
For Postdoctoral Research Fellow:
- Proficiency in developing research objectives, projects, and proposals.
- Identification of research funding sources and contribution to securing funds.
- Experience in making presentations at conferences and other events.
Job Description: This full-time position is immediately available until October 31, 2026, on a fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will participate in the IDAPro project, involving marine primary production research. Key responsibilities include planning and conducting observations and experiments at sea to quantify zooplankton grazing rates and nutrient recycling, using established and state-of-the-art techniques. The resulting data will contribute to our understanding of how zooplankton physiology impacts nutrient stoichiometry and ocean productivity. The role includes participating in research expeditions to the Iceland Basin in the North Atlantic in 2024, with responsibilities for data generation, interpretation, and publication/dissemination. Collaboration with other experts in the field is a crucial aspect of this role.
You will be part of a team led by Prof. Daniel Mayor at the University of Exeter, collaborating closely with Dr. Kathryn Cook (University of Exeter) and other scientists at partner institutions in the UK (Universities of Southampton, Oxford, Liverpool, Heriot-Watt, and the National Oceanography Centre), as well as international partners.
