Post-Doctoral Research Assistant: Join the team at the University of Edinburgh’s School of History, Classics & Archaeology as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant. This role is part of the AHRC-funded project, ‘Beyond Borders: The Second World War, National Identities and Empire in the UK.’ The successful candidate will contribute to groundbreaking research on wartime national identities in the UK, with a focus on oral history and life writing archival fieldwork.

Research Area: History, with a focus on oral history, life-writing, Second World War histories, and identity studies.

Location: School of History, Classics & Archaeology, University of Edinburgh, Central Area, Midlothian, United Kingdom (100% On-campus).

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed PhD or equivalent in History or a cognate discipline.
  • Research expertise relevant to the project.
  • Active engagement and contribution to research papers.
  • Experience in creating and working with a lightweight database.
  • Commitment to continuous personal development.

Job Description: As a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant, you will:

  • Conduct research in archives and oral history collections in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and England.
  • Co-write a monograph and journal article as part of the AHRC-funded project.
  • Contribute to the critical reassessment of wartime national identities in the UK.
  • Collaborate with the project team to produce a directory of UK oral history datasets.
  • Input project data into related spreadsheets and create a lightweight database.
