Research Engineer Position in Linear Solutions, KU Leuven, Belgium

Postdoctoral Fellow in Belgium

Research Engineer Position in Linear Solutions: The KU Leuven Mecha(tro)nic System Dynamics (LMSD) and the Campus Diepenbeek Polymer Processing & Engineering (PPE) groups are inviting applications for a research engineer position within the challenging Horizon Europe MSCA doctoral network METRAMAT. This opportunity, designated as DC2, focuses on the robust design of optimal, manufacturable, linear solutions for (low frequency) vibration migration.

Summary Table:

PositionResearch Engineer (DC2)
ProjectMETRAMAT – Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network
Study AreaEngineering, physics or mathematics
DurationTypically a 4-year PhD trajectory
Remuneration€3400 monthly gross salary, €600 mobility allowance, €600 family allowance

Study Area: The research involves the development of optimal linear solutions for (low frequency) vibration migration. As DC2 within the METRAMAT project, the focus is on deriving metamaterial treatments for complex mechanical components. This includes optimizing metamaterial unit cell placement on a complex host structure, developing design strategies, and ensuring robustness to manufacturing tolerances.

Scholarship Description:

Research Engineer Position in Optimal Linear Solutions for Vibration Migration (ref. BAP-2023-796)

The METRAMAT project aims to train young researchers in metamaterial development. The successful candidate, as DC2, will contribute to novel methods for deriving metamaterial treatments. This involves optimizing unit cell placement, developing design strategies, and ensuring robustness to manufacturing tolerances and process quality.

Eligibility: The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics, with above-average performance. Proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement. Candidates must not have had residence or main activities in Belgium for more than 12 months in the last 3 years. Basic experience in structural dynamics, (vibro-)acoustics, numerical modeling techniques, and numerical optimization is desired.

Required Documents:

  1. Full CV
  2. Motivation Letter
  3. Full list of credits and grades for BSc and MSc degrees (with English transcription if possible)
  4. Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) – if available
  5. Two reference letters – if available
  6. English version of MSc or PhD thesis, recent publication, or assignment – if available

How to Apply: Interested candidates should follow the application tool and submit the required documents. For additional information, please contact Dr. Claus Claeys (claus.claeys@kuleuven.be), Dr. Régis Boukadia (regis.boukadia@kuleuven.be), and Prof. Elke Deckers (elke.deckers@kuleuven.be) by mail, mentioning ‘METRAMAT DC2’ in the title.

Last Date: Applications must be submitted no later than 30 December 2023 via the online application tool. Join a vibrant research environment, contribute to cutting-edge work, and pursue a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. KU Leuven encourages diversity and welcomes talents from all backgrounds.
