Postdoctoral Researcher – Integrated Cropping: The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for a 3-year postdoctoral position as part of FAIRagro, a consortium in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in Germany. The position involves developing research data management solutions for agroecosystem modellers, focusing on data infrastructure and adherence to FAIR data principles.

Research Area: Integrated Cropping System Analysis, Research Data Management for Agroecosystem Modelling

Location: Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), Müncheberg, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in agriculture, soil science, geography, mathematics, physics, or similar field
  • Familiarity with process-based crop or ecological simulation models
  • Experience working with large datasets and/or FAIR research data management
  • Basic scripting skills (e.g., R, Python)
  • Knowledge of soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics in agroecosystems is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German language skills are an asset but not required
  • Good teamwork skills with an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration

Job Description:

Postdoctoral Researcher – Integrated Cropping System Analysis

The selected candidate will:

  • Develop processing pipelines to create model calibration datasets for soil organic matter processes from published literature.
  • Create workflows for reproducible data scaling and aggregation.
  • Interact regularly with the FAIRagro team to develop appropriate infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with external colleagues working with large datasets in agroecosystem modelling.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
