Academic Research Assistant – Chemistry: Saarland University invites applications for a full-time Academic Research Assistant in the Department of Chemistry, commencing on 01 October 2025. This 5-year position is part of the DFG-funded Research Training Group “Engineering of Covalent Bonds in Molecules and Materials (RTG ECM²)”. The successful candidate will be involved in interdisciplinary research on organic and/or inorganic thin films with a focus on electronic and magnetic properties.

Eligibility / Qualification:

  • Required:
    • Doctoral degree / PhD in Natural Sciences or equivalent
    • English language proficiency at C1 level (GER)
  • Desirable:
    • Experience with air- and moisture-sensitive molecules/materials
    • Teaching experience
    • Interest in pursuing an independent academic career
    • German language proficiency at B2 level (GER)

Job Description / Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thin layer deposition from gas and/or solution phase
  • Characterize surfaces using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
  • Implement advanced AFM techniques (e.g., conductive, magnetic)
  • Maintain and manage AFM and deposition equipment
  • Document, present, and publish scientific results
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary research groups
  • Actively contribute to the goals of RTG ECM²
