Assistant Professor (Post-Doc) in Research Staff: The University of Silesia in Katowice is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the research project NCN SONATA BIS titled “Enhancing paleo seismological record through multi-methods cave deformation analysis tested in diverse Hellenides tectonic regimes.” This role is an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the discipline of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Minimum doctoral degree in natural sciences or a related field (Earth sciences, physical sciences, geology, or geophysics) obtained not earlier than 7 years from the employment date.
  • Very good command of English.
  • Documented experience in Finite Element Method (FEM) modeling.
  • Recent scientific achievements indexed in Scopus or Web of Science databases.
  • Additional requirements:
  • Experience with LIDAR points cloud data.
  • Knowledge of seismology.
  • Mountaineering or speleological skills.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research in Earth and Environmental Sciences as part of the project led by Dr. Jacek Szczygieł.
  • Participate in fieldwork in selected caves in Greece and laboratory work at the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Silesia.
  • Coordinate and acquire output data for analyses conducted using FEM and carry out FEM modeling of speleothems.
  • Contribute to the preparation of publications resulting from the research.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks as per the Individual Assignment of Duties.
