BBSRC SWBio DTP PhD studentship: The University of Exeter, in partnership with the BBSRC-funded South West Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership (SWBio DTP), is offering a fully-funded PhD studentship. The research project focuses on developing novel herbicides by understanding the structural and kinetic aspects of essential enzymes. Eligibility/Qualification:
- Applicants must hold or be about to obtain a First or Upper Second Class UK Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Proficiency in English with an IELTS score of at least 6.5 in each section (if applicable).
- Applicants with a strong mathematical background are preferred.
- This studentship is available to those who have not previously obtained or are about to obtain a PhD.
Job Description:
BBSRC SWBio DTP PhD studentship 2024 Entry – Time-resolved kinetic and structural understanding of essential enzymes to develop novel herbicides, PhD in Biological Sciences Ref: 4940
- The student will work on a structural biology project aimed at developing new herbicides for crop security.
- The research will involve determining the structural dynamics of enzymatic action for herbicide targets.
- Techniques include protein production, purification, crystallization, structure determination, and enzyme studies.
- The student will undertake a 3-month placement at Syngenta’s site at Jealott’s Hill for additional insights into herbicide development.
- The project is hosted at the Living Systems Institute in Exeter, providing access to cutting-edge facilities and interdisciplinary training.
