Call for PhD Student: Crops Establishment, INRA, Morocco

Teaching Staffs at SVPUAT Meerut, UP- Apply by 14 October 2020

Call for PhD Student: Crops Establishment: An exciting opportunity for a Ph.D. student is available with a focus on improving crops’ establishment in a no-till system. This research project, part of the national program promoting a no-till system for adoption in one million hectares, aims to address challenges in transitioning from conventional cropping systems to no-till in the Moroccan arid land context. The project emphasizes the crucial role of physical soil matrix and soil-tool interaction in enhancing biological soil processes for optimal crop establishment and stress mitigation.

Summary Table:

Thesis TitleCrops Establishment in No-Till System
Duration3 years
ScholarshipApproximately 5000 MAD/month
Host InstitutionCRRA Settat
Application Deadline15 December 2023

Study Area: The research focuses on improving crop establishment under a no-till system, examining the impact of soil-tool interaction on water management and yield gap. Key areas of study include no-till seeders technologies, soil compactness, chiseling effects, and radial root system development for better soil moisture management.

Scholarship Description:

Call for PhD Student: Crops Establishment in No-Till System with a Focus on Soil-Tool Interaction

This Ph.D. project seeks to explore options for enhancing crop establishment in a no-till system, emphasizing the role of soil-tool interaction in overcoming challenges faced in the structuration of the physical soil matrix. The improvement of crops’ radial root system development is crucial for increasing soil water capacitance, limiting water stress, and reducing yield gaps in cereal and food legume production.

Eligibility: Candidates with a Master’s degree in Soil Sciences or Soil Physics, Agricultural Engineering, or Soil Scientist Engineering are eligible to apply.

Required Documents: Interested candidates should submit the following documents to imane.thatnialamiaiinrama and molialerrahiqfinra.mai:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  2. Statement of Purpose (max 2 pages) outlining research interests and motivation for the project
  3. Two reference letters

How to Apply: To apply, submit the required documents to the provided email addresses. Eligible candidates must have formal pre-registration at the Moroccan Centers for Doctoral Studies (IAV Hassan, Moroccan Universities) by the application deadline.

Last Date: The application deadline is 15 December 2023.

Duration of the Contract and Amount of the Scholarship: The doctoral scholarship is approximately 5000 MAD/month for 3 years, subject to the signing of a contract between INRA and the candidate.
