Summary
The University of Montpellier, a leading intensive research university globally recognized in ecology and ranked in the top 200 of the Shanghai ranking, is seeking a Synthetic Chemistry Researcher. This position is within the Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBMM), focusing on the development of stable biomaterials based on peptide self-assembly and sol-gel technology. The role involves designing and synthesizing silylated peptides to create robust peptide-based biomaterials with potential applications in medical devices, crop protection, and food packaging.
Designation
Synthetic Chemistry Researcher (F/H)
Research Area
The research focuses on the intersection of chemistry, biology, and health, specifically in the development of novel stable biomaterials. Key areas include:
- Peptide self-assembly
- Sol-gel technology
- Synthesis of silylated peptides
- Hybrid materials for biomedical applications (e.g., functionalized dressings, targeted drug delivery, nanoparticles for cancer, 3D printable biomimetic hydrogels)
- Antifouling and antimicrobial properties of materials
Location
Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBMM), Pôle Chimie Balard, University of Montpellier, France.
Eligibility/Qualification
Candidates must possess:
- Doctorate degree in organic chemistry, chemical synthesis, and analysis.
- Basic knowledge in peptide chemistry, bacteriology, cell culture biology, and antifouling property evaluation.
- Skills in synthesis and characterization of hybrid materials.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Rigor and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in scientific English.
- Strong writing and reporting skills.
- Autonomy and initiative.
Job Description
The primary objective of this position is to develop novel stable biomaterials by combining peptide self-assembly and sol-gel technology. The researcher will be responsible for:
- Designing and synthesizing silylated peptides incorporating molecular recognition elements for self-assembly.
- Subjecting silylated peptides to hydrolysis and condensation reactions to form covalent bonds between peptides, leading to stable biomaterial generation.
- Developing materials that promote cellular integration and exhibit antifouling and antimicrobial properties.
- Contributing to a research program aimed at creating robust peptide-based biomaterials that provide favorable signals for mammalian cells while limiting bacterial adhesion.
These biomaterials are intended for various applications, including medical devices, crop protection, and food packaging.
