Location: ST MARTIN D HERES, Grenoble, France

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Doctorate in Geosciences, Applied Machine Learning, Data Assimilation, or Applied Mathematics
  • 1 to 4 years of research experience
  • Proficiency in Python and major machine learning libraries (PyTorch, Jax, TensorFlow)
  • Knowledge of oceanic processes and their representation in circulation models
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific writing and communication
  • Experience in collaborative software development tools and practices
  • Research experience in an international and multidisciplinary context
  • Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment

Job Description:

  • Develop methods to correct the NEMO ocean circulation model used in various Earth system models in Europe.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to formulate learning problems to construct an operator correcting the model’s evolution operator based on oceanic reanalysis data.
  • Utilize the historical CIGAR reanalysis and recent international studies to inform the corrections.
  • Evaluate the learned corrections in global 1° resolution simulations of the NEMO code used by climate models.
