Eligibility/Qualification:
- Doctorate in Geosciences, Applied Machine Learning, Data Assimilation, or Applied Mathematics
- 1 to 4 years of research experience
- Proficiency in Python and major machine learning libraries (PyTorch, Jax, TensorFlow)
- Knowledge of oceanic processes and their representation in circulation models
- Demonstrated experience in scientific writing and communication
- Experience in collaborative software development tools and practices
- Research experience in an international and multidisciplinary context
- Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment
Job Description:
- Develop methods to correct the NEMO ocean circulation model used in various Earth system models in Europe.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to formulate learning problems to construct an operator correcting the model’s evolution operator based on oceanic reanalysis data.
- Utilize the historical CIGAR reanalysis and recent international studies to inform the corrections.
- Evaluate the learned corrections in global 1° resolution simulations of the NEMO code used by climate models.
- Present research findings in scientific articles, international conferences, and specialized working groups.
