Research Area

The project focuses on the accelerated development of advanced materials by integrating machine learning with experimental characterization methods, specifically aimed at optimizing microstructure-property relationships in steels.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A completed university degree (Master or equivalent) in data science, material science, mechanical engineering, physics, or similar fields.
  • Strong background in Machine Learning or simulation.
  • Practical experience in at least one programming language (preferably Python).
  • Experience in material characterization methods is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and structured thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and team collaboration ability.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.

Description

The PhD candidate will engage in an interdisciplinary project combining the expertise from the Institute of Advanced Simulation (IAS-9) and the Institute of Energy Materials and Devices (IMD-1). Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and applying machine learning methods for material optimization.
  • Generating synthetic microstructures using OptiMic software.
  • Conducting micromechanical simulations and experimental characterizations.
  • Utilizing advanced characterization techniques such as SEM, EBSD, XRD, and nanoindentation.
