Description
The red handfish, endemic to south-eastern Tasmania, is critically endangered. The successful applicant will conduct controlled laboratory experiments and observational studies focusing on:
- Behavioural ecology and habitat complexity.
- Mate detection and genetic relatedness.
- Reproductive behaviour, courtship, and maternal care.
- Determining sexual maturity and breeding management.
The project aims to inform effective conservation strategies, improve captive breeding protocols, and contribute to re-stocking efforts for the red handfish population.
