COSS PhD Scholarship: The College of Social Sciences (CoSS) invites applications for a PhD scholarship focusing on the dynamics of earmarked funding in international development organizations. This research aims to explore the implications and challenges of donor influence on development effectiveness, particularly concerning financial strains on International Development Organizations (IDOs).

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A strong Master’s degree (or overseas equivalent) in Political Economy, International Relations, Development Studies, Economics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable interest in the topic area.
  • Ability to study part-time or full-time.
  • Experience with quantitative research methods (e.g., statistical analysis, working with datasets), with training available if needed.
    Desirable: Experience working with global financial institutions, development organizations, or in policy work.

Job Description:

The scholarship supports a full-time PhD program over three years starting in January 2026. The selected candidate will address research gaps in the politics of IDO resourcing and its influence on international cooperation and development effectiveness. Projects should employ diverse methods to critically engage with the subject.
