DFG POSTDOC POSITION: The University of Stuttgart is pleased to announce a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Researcher (2.5 years) in Environmental Microbiology. The selected candidate will join the newly established Department of Environmental Microbiology at the Institute for Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Solid Waste Management (ISWA) to contribute to cutting-edge investigations in subsurface microbial ecology.

DFG POSTDOC POSITION IN ENVIRONMENTAL MICROBIOLOGY

Designation:
Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area:
The Postdoctoral Researcher will explore the dynamic world of karstified and fractured subsurface aquifers, focusing on the impact of microbial denitrifying communities on groundwater nitrate turnover. This project addresses critical environmental and health concerns related to drinking water quality.

Location:
Stuttgart, Campus Vaihingen

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in microbiology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Strong expertise in microbiology, microbial ecology, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience in subsurface microbiology, water chemistry, and bioinformatics.
  • Field work expertise.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication.
  • International experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

Job Description:

  • Lead and conduct field campaigns.
  • Plan, execute, and troubleshoot lab experiments.
  • Be open to exploring new methodologies, techniques, and research directions.
  • Communicate research findings effectively through written reports, scientific publications, and presentations.
  • Collaborate within the research team and with external partners.
  • Supervise BSc, MSc, and PhD students.
  • Teach classes at BSc and MSc level (optional).
