Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship: The Mechanics and Computation Group at Stanford University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is inviting applications for the Stephen Timoshenko Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship. This two-year fellowship is designed for researchers at the intersection of mechanics, computation, and experimental science, providing a unique opportunity to conduct independent research, collaborate with faculty, and develop teaching experience.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Candidates must have received a Ph.D. prior to the start of the appointment (September 1, 2026) but not more than 2 years before.
  • Research activities should be broadly aligned with the fields of mechanics and computation.
  • Candidates must demonstrate outstanding promise in research and a strong interest and ability in teaching.

Job Description

  • Conduct independent research in emerging and interdisciplinary areas related to mechanics and computation.
  • Collaborate with multiple faculty members within the group and contribute to ongoing research projects.
  • Design and teach courses in the mechanics curriculum, enhancing the candidate’s teaching experience.
  • Propose a budget for experimental and computational costs associated with independent research, assuming access to shared facilities and labs.
