Research Area

The project will involve exploring cellular membrane dynamics, lipid synthesis, and membrane remodeling, focusing on the creation of synthetic membranes that more closely mimic natural cellular conditions.

Eligibility/Qualification

Essential:

  • Master’s degree or 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or a related field.

Desirable:

  • Research project experience in one of the specified disciplines.
  • Practical experience with biomolecular condensates and giant unilamellar vesicles.
  • Knowledge of membrane biophysics, biomolecular condensates, or membrane protein biochemistry.

Description

The selected Doctoral Candidate will work exclusively on the MSCA programme for the duration of the employment contract. The position involves investigating the effects of lipid composition and membrane expansion on condensate-stability and simulating natural cellular growth through novel liposomal model systems. The candidate will also participate in secondments at the University of Leuven (KU), University of Nijmegen (RU), and the Berlin branch of Nature Communications.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their applications via email to Marten Exterkate at Marten.Exterkate [at] hhu.de, including a CV and relevant documentation supporting their qualifications and experience.
