Research Area

Enhancing Entanglement Quality in Quantum Networks. The project will explore techniques such as entanglement distillation (potentially with error correction) and discarding low-quality entanglement (cut-off time) using simulation and analytical calculation. This research is conducted within Tim Coopmans’ research group at QuTech, focusing on the design of quantum networks and quantum circuits using computer science techniques.

Delft, Netherlands (TU Delft / QuTech) with secondments at:

  • University of Naples Federico II (UNINA), Italy
  • EURECOM, France

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Education: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Exposure to quantum computing or quantum information through coursework or equivalent experience is required.
  • Skills: Motivated and creative researcher interested in quantum technology, quantum information, and computer science. Good communication skills and willingness to learn are essential for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Mobility Rule (MSCA Requirement): Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work or studies) in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to the recruitment date.
  • English Proficiency: Sufficient English proficiency to communicate, participate in Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a thesis (refer to Graduate School Admission Requirements for details).

Scholarship Description

This fully funded PhD position is offered by QuTech at TU Delft as part of the QUESTING Doctoral Network, an EU-funded initiative under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The program aims to train future experts in quantum technology, specifically for the development of secure and efficient communication networks – the Quantum Internet. The successful candidate will work on a cutting-edge project focused on improving the quality of entanglement between network nodes.
