Research Area:
The doctoral researcher will be involved in research within one of two projects:

  1. Hyperpolarization and optical NMR, led by PI: Anu Kantola
  2. Machine learning modeling of NMR in complex materials, led by PI: Perttu Lantto

Location:
University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed MSc degree or equivalent in physics, chemistry, materials science, or related field
  • Good grades in the master’s degree (at least 60% of the maximum grade in both taught courses and the master’s thesis)
  • English language proficiency to follow doctoral studies
  • Experience in quantum mechanics and scientific computing/statistical mechanics for computationally inclined applicants
  • Experience in NMR spectroscopy and/or quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, and machine learning methods for experimental or computational work, respectively
  • Proficiency in basic Linux/Unix and at least one relevant programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++, Fortran)
  • Highly motivated with good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills

Job Description:
The doctoral researcher will conduct experimental and/or computational research within their assigned project as part of the Kvantum Institute project “Sensitive NMR for Sustainable Development”. The work will involve instrument and methods development, experimental NMR, spin dynamics simulations, quantum chemistry calculations, molecular dynamics modeling, and machine learning interaction potential (MLIP) models.
