Research Area

The research is positioned within Computational Weld Mechanics (CWM), focus areas include:

  • Thermo-metallurgical and phase-transformation modelling in high-strength steels.
  • Microstructural evolution and local heat-affected zone (HAZ) behaviour analysis.
  • Predictive modelling of local mechanical characteristics, including hardness, yield strength, and strain-hardening performance.
  • Experimental validation through mechanical, microstructural, and thermal testing.
  • Performance-driven design for next-generation welded, fossil-free steel structures.

Position Description & Benefits

The selected doctoral candidate will work within the Welding Technology and Steel Structures research groups, engaging alongside approximately 25 specialized researchers and collaborating with premier European institutions such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chemnitz University of Technology, and the University of Oulu.

Eligibility and Qualifications

To be eligible for this doctoral position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Degree: A completed Master’s degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Welding Engineering, Computational Mechanics, or a closely related discipline. (Graduating students may apply with an official graduation estimate).
