Doctoral Researcher/PhD Student: The University of Marburg is seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher/PhD Student to join the research group RNA biochemistry within the Department of Pharmacy, Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The position is for a duration of 3 years, part-time (65% employment), with a focus on understanding fundamental principles of mitochondrial gene expression. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Benedict Tan, exploring key molecular events in vitro and their implications in human diseases.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree or equivalent in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or related field
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Experience in molecular cloning, protein purification, in vitro transcription, and cell culture techniques is desirable
  • Background in transcription and nucleic acid biochemistry is advantageous

Job Description:
The selected candidate will:

  • Conduct scientific services in research and teaching
  • Perform biochemical assays related to human mitochondrial RNA metabolism
  • Corroborate findings using biochemical and genetic methods in cultured human cells
  • Conduct genetic and proteomic screens
  • Record, analyze, and present scientific data
  • Drive an independent research project under the supervision of the principal investigator (PI)
