This is an exciting opportunity for talented candidates to contribute to cutting-edge research in microbiome dynamics and its implications for human health.

Designation

Doctoral Researcher (Ph.D. Candidate)

Research Area

  • Metagenomics
  • Microbiome Dynamics
  • Precision Medicine and Metabolic Health

Location

Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology (Leibniz-HKI), Jena, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification

Qualification Requirements
Master’s degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
Knowledge and experience in the analysis of metagenomics and/or biological high-throughput data
Familiarity with statistical methods relevant to biological systems
Programming skills in Python, Perl, C++, or R
Strong collaborative skills and interest in interdisciplinary research

Description

The Ph.D. project focuses on leveraging advanced computational techniques to analyze extensive metagenomics datasets, with the aim of understanding the influence of diet on the gut virome and its impact on the development of metabolic diseases. Candidates will engage with national and international research projects aimed at elucidating the role of the microbiome in significant global diseases, contributing to a healthier, cleaner, and fairer society.

The successful candidates will join an international, dynamic team within the Microbiome Dynamics Department, led by Prof. Gianni Panagiotou, and will have access to state-of-the-art computational resources and a collegial research environment.
