Doctoral Researcher – TreeDì Project: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, in collaboration with the DFG-funded International Research Training Group GRK 2324 “TreeDì – Tree Diversity Interactions,” is seeking a Doctoral Researcher for a part-time position (65%) on the project “Drivers of soil micro-eukaryote richness in a tree diversity experiment.” The position is based on a unique collaboration with the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Scientific University degree (Diploma/M.Sc.) in a project-related field (e.g., ecology, environmental sciences)
- Strong ecological knowledge and interest in forest and soil biodiversity research
- Proficient in quantitative and statistical skills, especially in R
- Experience in nematology, microscopy techniques, and next-generation sequencing are advantageous
- Fluency in English (writing and speaking)
- Motivated, proactive team player with flexibility and organizational skills
- Willingness to spend 2-4 months per year in China for fieldwork, lab visits, and courses
- Fieldwork experience in subtropical conditions is advantageous
Job Description: The project focuses on understanding the impact of tree diversity on nematode and soil protist communities in the BEF-China experiment. Tasks include soil sampling, nematode identification using next-gen sequencing and microscopy, and analyzing the influence of tree species composition on micro-eukaryotic communities.
