Research Area

The research focuses on computational neurobiology, aiming to develop early diagnostic tools and treatments for Alzheimer’s disease through the use of deep learning, generative models, and cross-modal autoencoders.

Location

The position is based at the VIB Center for Molecular Neurology, University of Antwerp, Belgium. Work will primarily take place at Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating environment.

Eligibility/Qualification

Candidates must hold a master’s degree in applied mathematics, computer science, statistics, machine learning, or related fields by the start date. Applicants should have:

  • Strong enthusiasm and motivation for developing computational frameworks for neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Excellent academic performance in relevant subjects.
  • Proficiency in Python (R is a plus).
  • Experience in developing/troubleshooting statistical frameworks and computational models.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
  • Ability to explain research to both computational and experimental biologists.

Ideal candidates will also have experience with generative AI models, package development, automatic data collection, and structural brain image or genetic/epigenetic data analysis.

Job Description

  • Engage in a project aimed at identifying patient-specific triggers of Alzheimer’s disease using advanced AI and computational models.
  • Develop a statistical framework and computational tool for reconstructing past causal longitudinal trajectories.
  • Publish scientific articles and present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Contribute to other research directions in the lab.
  • Perform teaching and research support tasks at the University of Antwerp.
