Doctoral Student in Biology: Lund University’s Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, invites applications for a doctoral student position in Biology. This opportunity offers the chance to delve into the fascinating field of mitochondrial biology in anaerobic eukaryotes, exploring their adaptation to oxygen-depleted environments. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team under the supervision of Dr. Courtney Stairs and Dr. Olivier van Aken, contributing to the prestigious European Research Council ‘TANGO2’ StG project.

Study Area: Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Evolutionary Biology

Location: Lund University, Lund, Skåne län, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, biochemistry, evolutionary biology, or related field.
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability for proactive and independent work.
  • Practical experience in molecular biology or cell biology of prokaryotic or eukaryotic microorganisms.

Description: The doctoral student will investigate the mitochondrial biology of anaerobic eukaryotes, focusing on their unique adaptations to oxygen-depleted environments. Utilizing advanced cell biological methods such as super-resolution microscopy, proteomics, and metabolomics, the candidate will explore the functional diversity of anaerobic respiratory chains and evolutionary mechanisms. This project offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a collaborative and supportive environment.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their applications online by the closing date of May 3, 2024, at 11:59 PM CEST. Applications must include a cover letter, CV, degree certificate or equivalent, and any other relevant documents.
