Study in Sweden

Doctoral Student in Biology: Örebro University and the School of Science and Technology invite applications for a position as a doctoral student in Biology. This position is ideal for those interested in cutting-edge research at the intersection of molecular biology and plant physiology, with the goal of obtaining a licentiate degree.

Designation: Doctoral Student

Research Area:
The doctoral project focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying plant perception and integration of multiple light signals. The research will investigate how light acts as a key environmental factor that provides energy for photosynthesis and cues for plant growth and development.

Location:
Örebro Life Science Centre, School of Science and Technology, Örebro University, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A passing grade in courses amounting to at least 120 credits in biology, including an independent project.
  • An additional 30 credits at the second cycle level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in plant physiology and molecular biology.
  • Knowledge in plant photobiology is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in general molecular and protein biochemistry techniques.
  • Highly motivated, independent, and possessing excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Job Description:

  • Design and perform factorial experiments to assess plant responses to UV and visible light at multiple levels (gene, protein, and metabolite).
  • Assess how UV in combination with other light qualities modulates the plant transcriptome.
  • Identify new molecular players involved in plant responses to UV and visible light.
  • Work with model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and commercial crops like tomato.
  • You will be supervised by Luis Orlando Morales (principal supervisor) and Åke Strid (assistant supervisor).

How to Apply:
The application is made online. Click here to begin the application procedure. For your application to be complete, please include the following electronic documents:

  • The form “Application for/decision on admission to research studies”
  • CV
  • Copies of the original certificates and official transcripts for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees
