Research Area

The research focuses on understanding how energy from organic substrates influences microbial activity and carbon cycling in soil systems, with implications for environmental sustainability and carbon balance.

Location

  • RPTU Landau
  • Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Leipzig

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Bachelor and Master’s degree in Soil Science, Physical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in complex and interdisciplinary relationships in soil systems.
  • Prior experience (advantageous but not required) in calorimetry, thermodynamics, soil science, environmental microbiology, or isotope tracer experiments.
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and international team.
  • Very good skills in English, both written and spoken.

Description

Candidates will conduct research on how energy inputs through organic substrates control the formation of dissipative structures in soil microbiomes, focusing on quantifying energy and matter fluxes in soils. This role requires the application and development of physicochemical analytical techniques and thermodynamic modeling approaches.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their detailed application, including CV, references, etc., through the online application portal available here.

Last Date to Apply

Application Deadline: 30th September 2025
Interviews Scheduled: Calendar weeks 41/42, 2025

This is a unique opportunity to engage in top-level interdisciplinary research with excellent working conditions in a cosmopolitan environment.
