Eligibility/Qualification:
Essential:
- Diploma or Master’s degree in Botany, Biology, Paleontology, Paleobiology, or related fields
- Knowledge of botany and plant anatomy
- Strong interest in trait-based analyses and macroevolution
- Good communication skills for collaboration in a diverse, international environment
- Very good command of written and spoken English
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the statistical programming language R
- Experience with vegetative fossils of seed plants
- Knowledge of cuticular anatomy and microscopy techniques, including fluorescence and confocal microscopy
Description:
As part of the Emmy Noether Project “Spatial signal and bias in the fossil record of seed plants in the late Mesozoic,” the doctoral student will explore the variation in plant trait diversity during the Jurassic-Cretaceous interval. Responsibilities will include studying vegetative fossil specimens, quantifying morphological variation, and disseminating results through scientific channels.
