Postdoc Position at University of Zurich Switzerland

Doctorate in Clean Transport Transition: The Energy and Technology Policy Group (EPG) at ETH Zurich is seeking a doctoral candidate to conduct research on the clean transport transition in developing countries. This research position is part of the ETH Future Mobility Research Project ESYN, which aims to investigate the role of battery electric and synthetic fuel vehicles in decarbonizing passenger road transport in developing countries, particularly in Africa.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A Master’s Degree (120 ECTS).
  • Relevant disciplinary fields include, but are not limited to: industrial engineering; energy, mechanical, or electrical engineering; innovation studies; or public policy with a background in science/technology. Interdisciplinary candidates are welcome.
  • A good understanding of energy and particularly transport technologies.
  • Coding knowledge, mainly in Python.
  • Team-oriented working style.
  • Dedication to scientifically rigorous work that is relevant to decision makers in the public and private sectors.
  • Proficiency in English (both oral and written); knowledge of German is a plus but not a core requirement.

Job Description:

The primary focus of this position will be technical modeling work, particularly projection modeling, to understand the role of electric and synthetic fuel vehicles in decarbonizing passenger road transport in developing countries. The candidate will also assess and explore the effects of policy interventions on transitional pathways. Collaboration with other research groups at ETH and relevant stakeholders is an essential part of the role.
