Research Area

The ELLIS PhD Program focuses on a wide range of research areas within machine learning, including but not limited to:

Location

Positions are available at various European institutions, and candidates will have opportunities for international collaboration, including a minimum 6-month exchange with the secondary advisor.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field (e.g., computer science, data science, statistics).
  • A strong academic record with relevant research experience.
  • Candidates should demonstrate an interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

Description

The ELLIS PhD Program pairs students with a primary advisor and a secondary advisor from different institutions, providing each student with ample networking and collaboration opportunities. The program encompasses multiple tracks, including industry-focused and interdisciplinary paths, allowing students to engage in innovative research while working alongside leading experts in their fields.

PhD candidates will also take part in various networking and training activities, such as summer schools and workshops, important for professional development and academic collaboration.

How to Apply

  1. Register on the ELLIS application portal.
  2. Complete the online application form, indicating your preferences for research areas and potential supervisors.
  3. Upload required documents:
  • A two-page motivational letter.
  • Current CV detailing educational background and research experience.
  • Unofficial transcripts of all university studies (translated into English).
  • Optional additional documents (thesis, publications, etc.).
  1. Provide contact details for 2–3 referees who can submit a recommendation.
