Location:

Worldwide (with preference for international mobility). Positions may be held in EMBC Member States or EMBO Global Partner Countries (Chile, India, Singapore, Taiwan).


Eligibility / Qualification:

  • Must hold a PhD or equivalent at the start of the fellowship.
  • PhD must have been awarded within two years prior to application.
  • At least one first-author publication in an international peer-reviewed journal OR a peer-reviewed first-author preprint with public, verifiable, independent reviews.
  • International mobility is required: applicants must move to a different country than where the PhD was earned or where the candidate previously worked for >6 months.
  • Not eligible if:
    • Returning to a former lab or PhD supervisor.
    • Continuing directly from PhD work.
    • Already working in the host lab for >6 months.
  • Only one application per round, and reapplication is allowed once only.
  • Exceptions to eligibility for parental leave, illness, or military service (not for voluntary breaks).

Job Description:

  • Conduct high-level research at a host institution abroad in a field aligned with EMBO’s focus.
  • Participate in an EMBO Laboratory Leadership Course and become part of the EMBO Fellows’ Network.
  • Comply with ethical standards and research integrity principles; completion of an online ethics course is mandatory.
  • Fellows receive:
    • A salary (via contract in EMBC states) or stipend (outside EMBC states).
    • Relocation and childcare allowances.
    • Opportunities for professional development and networking.
