EPSRC DTP Funded PhD Scholarship: Swansea University is offering an EPSRC DTP funded PhD scholarship to study the effect of rotational polarisation on gas-surface reactivity. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct groundbreaking research in the field of molecular beams, surface science, and quantum-state resolved collisions.
EPSRC DTP Funded PhD Scholarship: The Effect of Rotational Polarisation on Gas-Surface Reactivity (RS682)
Designation: PhD Research Scholar
Research Area: Molecular beams, surface science, quantum-state resolved collisions
Location: Swansea University, United Kingdom
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Hold a UK bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Upper Second Class honours in chemistry, physics, or a related subject, OR overseas bachelor’s degree deemed equivalent to UK Bachelor (by UK ECCTIS) and achieved a grade equivalent to UK Upper Second Class honours in chemistry, physics or a related subject
- OR a master’s degree with a minimum overall grade at ‘Merit’ in chemistry or a related subject (or Non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University)
- Due to funding restrictions, this scholarship is open to applicants eligible to pay tuition fees at the UK rate only, as defined by UKCISA regulations
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be involved in a Future Leaders Fellowship project focusing on hydrogen colliding with surfaces at a fundamental molecular level. They will study the rotational orientation projection states of hydrogen molecules using the Magnetic Molecular Interferometer (MMI) apparatus. The project aims to explore how changing the rotational orientation projection state of the H2 molecule affects the probability of energy transfer between the molecule and the surface, as well as the reactivity of the H2 with the surface.
