ERC-Funded Ph.D. Position: The Institute of Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology (IPMB) at Heidelberg University invites applications for a Ph.D. position in epitranscriptomics, funded by an ERC Advanced Grant. The successful candidate will explore novel gene regulation mechanisms involving RNA modifications, using biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics approaches.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline
  • Strong enthusiasm for RNA biochemistry and epitranscriptomics
  • Creativity, initiative, teamwork, and proficiency in English
  • Teaching inclination is advantageous
  • Prior experience in RNA biology, next-generation sequencing, and/or mass spectrometry is beneficial but not mandatory

Job Description:
The Ph.D. candidate will:

  • Investigate coenzyme-linked RNAs and their biological significance
  • Expand existing RNA modification detection protocols, including NAD captureSeq
  • Develop new capture methods for various RNA modifications
  • Study RNA modifications across different organisms to assess occurrence and function
  • Conduct transcriptome-wide profiling and mechanistic studies
  • Work in an interdisciplinary environment, integrating biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics
