ERC-Funded PhD and Postdoc: The Hiller Lab at the LOEWE Center for Translational Biodiversity Genomics (TBG) in Frankfurt, Germany, is offering fully-funded PhD and Postdoc positions as part of the BATPROTECT project. The research focuses on uncovering the genomic basis of long healthspans, disease resistance, and viral tolerance in bats. The project involves collaboration with global experts and provides opportunities for exchanges and retreats. The positions are initially limited to 2-3 years with a possibility of extension, and the lab provides a dynamic, inclusive, and flexible working environment.

Study Area
Comparative Genomics, with a focus on understanding the genomic basis of healthspan, disease resistance, and viral tolerance in bats.
Scholarship Description
This opportunity is part of the BATPROTECT project, a 6-year ERC-funded initiative aimed at using bats as natural models of healthy aging and disease tolerance. The selected candidates will contribute to assembling reference-quality bat genomes, conducting phylogenomic analyses, and identifying key adaptations in bats. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with an international team of experts in genomics, bat biology, and aging. The lab offers cutting-edge computational and lab infrastructure and promotes an inclusive work culture with flexible working hours.
