Job Description: The project explores the extreme adaptations in the eyes of deep-sea fish, particularly focusing on cone and rod cells responsible for photoreception. Novel visual systems with unknown mechanisms have been discovered in several deep-sea fish lineages, including the use of multiple rhodopsins or uncertain identity of cones and rods, which is unusual for vertebrates. The project, funded by the ERC Consolidator grant, aims to study these adaptations from a single-cell level perspective. The candidate is expected to present their findings at international conferences and author research publications.
