About- The Government of India, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), has set up Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, Uttar Pradesh on the lines of IITs under the Act of Parliament 54/2007 with an empowerment to award degrees and conduct front-end research. Institue has been granted status of “An Institution of National Importance” by the Parliament. The Institue is promoted by six leading Oil PSUs (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in India, in association with Oil Industrial Development Board (OIDB) and positioned as a “World Class” Institution.

Eligibility/Qualification–
The minimum qualification for all faculty positions is:
- PhD in the appropriate branch/discipline.
- First class or equivalent at the preceding degree.
- A very good academic record throughout.
Additional requirements
For Engineering disciplines:
- Candidates must possess a B.Tech. degree in the relevant discipline.
For Humanities & English:
- Candidates must possess a PhD in English.
- Economics, Psychology and Sociology must be mandatory subjects at the bachelor’s degree level.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 35 years as on 31 August 2026.
- Age relaxation may be considered in exceptional cases.
- Relaxation for reserved-category candidates will be applicable as per Government of India rules.

Designation: Assistant Professor – Academic Pay Level 10
Selected Assistant Professors will be expected to contribute to teaching, research and academic activities of RGIPT. Faculty members may be required to:
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in their respective disciplines.
- Develop and pursue independent research programmes.
- Undertake proposed, ongoing and completed research projects.
- Participate in national and international conferences and academic activities.
- Contribute to curriculum development and departmental activities.
- Support interdisciplinary research and institutional initiatives.
- Participate in training at operating oil production units, including onshore/offshore facilities and refineries, as applicable to the discipline.
- Contribute to the overall academic and research development of the Sivasagar Campus.
Salary & Benefits
The position is offered at Academic Pay Level 10 under the 7th Central Pay Commission.
