PhD Position in Chemical Biology: The University of Barcelona’s Section of Organic Chemistry, led by Dr. Vicente Machin, is seeking two highly motivated PhD students to join their research team. This fully funded 4-year position focuses on developing innovative light-activated drugs for bioimaging and therapeutic applications, particularly in photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photopharmacology.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Pharmacy.
  • Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with competitive academic marks.
  • Strong background in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and/or chemical biology is highly recommended.

Job Description

The successful candidates will:

  • Synthesize new drug candidates and conjugate them with tumor-targeting molecules such as peptides and antibodies.
  • Conduct in vitro and in vivo biological evaluations of these compounds.
  • Enroll in the Organic Chemistry Doctoral Program at the University of Barcelona.
  • Receive comprehensive training in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, spectroscopy techniques, and chemical biology.
  • Gain access to state-of-the-art scientific equipment and facilities at the University of Barcelona and the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB).
