Study Area: Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology

Scholarship Description: Advances in medical technology have facilitated gene therapies for devastating rare diseases. However, the high costs of commercial therapies, ranging from £350k to £3.5M/dose, hinder global accessibility. This PhD project focuses on understanding and optimizing the biology of gene therapy vector production. By employing bioinformatics, molecular & cell biology, virology, biochemistry, and high-end microscopy, the project aims to identify host cell factors influencing viral vector assembly and transport. The goal is to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, and improve global availability.

Eligibility: Candidates with a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, or bioengineering are eligible. A proven track record of research productivity and independence is required.

Required Documents: Applicants must submit a CV, a cover letter explaining motivations for applying, and contact information for three references.

How to Apply: Candidates should submit a personal statement addressing their motivation for pursuing a Ph.D., interest in the project, alignment of skill set with project requirements, and the broader significance of research in the field. Apply for the scholarship under the categories of full time or part time by the closing date of 15 February 2024.

Last Date: 15 February 2024

Don’t miss the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in gene therapy manufacturing, with the chance to develop valuable skills and explore diverse career paths. Apply now for a scholarship that commences in September 2024.
