The Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh has invited applications for Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty) positions on a purely temporary basis for the Odd Semester of the Academic Year 2026–27. Selected candidates will teach B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology and M.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology courses under the National Education Policy (NEP). Eligibility / Qualification

Applicants must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

Educational Qualification

• A Master’s Degree in Biotechnology from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade wherever a grading system is followed).
• A 5% relaxation in marks is applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD categories and Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their Master’s degree before 19 September 1992, as per UGC norms.

Essential Eligibility

Candidates must have:

• Qualified the UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, SLET, SET, or any equivalent examination recognized by the UGC,

OR

• Been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the UGC Regulations.

Candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme before 11 July 2009 are exempted from the NET/SLET/SET requirement, subject to fulfillment of UGC-prescribed conditions, including:

• Ph.D. awarded in regular mode.
• Thesis evaluated by at least two external examiners.
• Successful open Ph.D. viva-voce.
• Publication of two research papers from Ph.D. work (at least one in a refereed journal).
• At least two conference/seminar presentations based on Ph.D. research, certified by the Registrar/Dean (Academic Affairs).

Job Description

The selected Guest Faculty member will:

• Teach B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology and M.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology courses.
• Conduct classes during the Odd Semester (2026–27).
• Deliver lectures according to departmental teaching requirements.
• Follow the curriculum under the National Education Policy (NEP).
• Perform academic responsibilities assigned by the Department of Biotechnology.

Honorarium

• ₹1,500 per lecture
• Maximum ₹50,000 per month

Candidates must provide an undertaking that they are not receiving any fellowship, stipend, or financial assistance from any agency during their tenure as Guest Faculty.

Candidates already receiving JRF scholarships at the University are not eligible for the honorarium, but they will receive an experience certificate for their Guest Faculty service.
