HFSP-funded PhD or Postdoc Position: The Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz is seeking a highly motivated individual for a PhD or postdoctoral position in the exciting new field of protein mechanoradicals. The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team focused on establishing mechanoradicals as a new species in vivo and defining their physiological role.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master or PhD degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or related fields
  • Experience in Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy
  • Strong interest in protein radicals and their fate
  • Enthusiasm for international teamwork

Job Description: The overarching aim of the HFSP project is to uncover the biophysical principles of mechanoradical formation and downstream signaling. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the labs of Ronen Zaidel-Bar, Tel Aviv University, and Alex Dunn, Stanford University. The project will involve employing EPR spectroscopy methods, tissue rheology, and redox biochemistry techniques, and optionally using machine learning and molecular simulation methods developed within the group. The work will be tightly linked to ongoing efforts within the ERC project RADICOL.
