HPE Project Postdoctoral Fellow: The History and Political Economy Project (HPE) invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship, starting July 1, 2024. The fellowship, funded by the Open Society Foundation Education & Ideas Collaborative and hosted at Johns Hopkins University, aims to support public engagement and scholarly programs related to global histories of neoliberalism. The HPE Project Postdoctoral Fellow will play a crucial role in disseminating historical research to wider audiences and advancing the public conversation on neoliberalism.

Designation: HPE Project Postdoctoral Fellow

Research Area: Global Histories of Neoliberalism, Political Economy, Public Engagement

Location: Flexible (Possibility of remote work or based in Baltimore with access to Johns Hopkins University resources; alternatively, based at Boston University)

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in history or a related field, conferred by June 30, 2024.
  • Subject area knowledge relevant to the HPE Project’s focus on global histories of neoliberalism.
  • Editorial experience, particularly at non-academic publications, with knowledge of and contacts in outlets bridging academic and public writing.
  • Experience in public-facing writing for non-academic and/or policy audiences.
  • Interest in career paths related to writing, editing, publishing, and/or related fields beyond academia.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-starting ability to plan and implement projects, strict adherence to deadlines, and multitasking capability.

Job Description:

  • Write and edit posts showcasing the scholarship of the HPE network on the project’s website.
  • Manage social media profiles for the HPE Project to share research work.
  • Contribute to ongoing translation and open-access publishing initiatives.
  • Partner with print and web-based publications to solicit, write, and/or edit content for broader dissemination.
  • Assist in organizing research conferences and public-facing conversations.
  • Write, edit, and publish concise dossiers of conference and event proceedings for distribution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A salary rate of $65,000/year plus benefits.
  • No teaching requirement, but teaching opportunities may be available based on candidate interests.
